Stains or Spills? Get them out of Your Hardwood Floors using these Simple Tips
Stains and spills affect the beauty of your wooden floor and they can strike terror into the heart of a homeowner. Juice spills, marker streaks and pet accidents are common in hardwood flooring if you have children or pets in your home. In most cases, these stains can be fully cleaned without disturbing the floor finish but when it comes to water stains that have penetrated deep into the wood, even sanding could not remove it entirely. Here is a whittled list of some cool tips to heed before panic over a dried up spill on your wooden floor.
- If you have just spilled your favorite Maybelline nail polish over the wooden floor, wipe it down using a cloth dipped in nail polish remover. This is a super cool method to remove nail polish stain instantly from your wooden floor.
- For everyday sorts of spills and dirt, make a simple mix of a teaspoon of cleaning detergent or white vinegar to water and use this solution to clean up the dirt.
- To remove stains from ink, candy, fruit and blood, start rubbing the area with a cloth dipped in water. Switch to the following agents to remove stains efficiently.
– White Vinegar – Wine Stain
– Ammonia – Stubborn Stains
– Chlorine – Dye Stains
– Warm Water and Detergent – Paint Stains
Don’t use chlorine and ammonia together because they create toxic fumes when combined.
- When cleaning stains with water, many hardwoods react to it and turn grey. This can be avoided by bleaching the wood with a solution of oxalic crystals and water. Before applying the bleaching agent make sure to sand the finish off of the stained area with a palm sander. Bleaching or refinishing hardwood floors is the best option, if the wood on your floor is excessively stained.
